The ACCCIM (The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia) has organized Science and Technology Innovation (STI) Competition since year 2007. The competition is aimed at inculcating a spirit of innovation and creativity in school students. The competition open for registration on 1st quarter of the year, final will be held in 3rd quarter.
1. Participation
- Open to all students of Chinese Independent High Schools and Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan in Malaysia.
- The project can be submitted by individual student or a team of not more than three students.
- For project submitted by a team, it is encouraged to appoint a team leader to coordinate the work. Each member of the team should be fully involved with the project, and be familiar with all aspects of the project. The final work should reflect the coordinated efforts of all team members and will be evaluated using similar rules and judging criteria as individual projects.
- Participation is entirely at one’s own expenses.
- Schools and parents are responsible for the conduct and safety of the students.
- Submission of entries implies ownership of the work, existing work with substantial improvement can also be submitted.
- The project may be continuation/research progression project in which it must document that the additional work is a substantive expansion from prior work. Repetition of previous experimentation with the same methodology and research question, even with an increased sample size, is an example of an unacceptable continuation.
2. Scope of project
- Science, engineering or technology project can be submitted for this competition.
- It is expected that the project is designed and developed with innovation/creativity/research components.
- Working prototype and experiments of the project must be developed/constructed, under supervision of supervisor/school teachers.
- It is the responsibility of the participant/s and the teacher supervisor to evaluate the study to determine if the research will require any review or approval prior to experimentation, especially projects that include human as experimental subject, vertebrate animals, or potentially hazardous biological agents, chemicals, activities or devices.
- The use of non-animal research methods and the use of alternatives to animal research are strongly encouraged and must be explored before conducting a vertebrate animal project.
- The project can be conducted in the following categories:
- Life Sciences (Biology, Botany, Food Science, etc)
- Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, etc)
- Medicine and Health Sciences
- Earth and Environmental Sciences
- Engineering and Technology
- Computer Science and Information Technology
- Mathematical Sciences
- Behavioral and Social Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Sciences
